Woodlands Mission Statement
“Our mission is to glorify God by encouraging, strengthening and equipping the people of Woodlands Presbyterian/Community Church to become effectively and personally involved in leading people of Woodlands and beyond into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.”
Our Core Values
1. Authority of Christ and Scripture ( Col 1:18, 2 Tim 3:16.) Jesus Christ is the head of the Church and His Word is the truth which is only final authority in life and ministry.
2. Dependence on God Through Active Prayer (Luke 19:46, Acts 4: 24-31.) Prayer is essential for effective life and ministry and shows a complete dependence upon God.
3. Inspiring Worship ( Matt 4:10). God alone is worthy of worship and when worship is inspiring it draws people to God.
4. Clarity of Doctrine ( 1 Tim 4:16). Clearly defined doctrine is necessary for an effective and unified ministry.
5. Evangelism (Matt 28:18-20, Acts 1:8). God’s desire is to see lost people come to Christ both locally and abroad.
6. Empowering Leadership. Spiritual leaders are essential within the local church. It is through them that others are built up and equipped for service.
7. Spirituality ( Eph 4:1-6, Col 2:6). It is essential that every believer is committed to spiritual growth and the exercising of their spiritual gifts within the local church.
8. Loving Relationships ( John 13:34, Heb 10:24-25). Loving relationships are essential for effective ministry and unity in the local church.
9. Gift-oriented Team Ministry (1 Cor 12, 1 Peter 4:10-11). It is essential that every Christian exercise his/her spiritual gift/s in the local church in order for it to function the way God intended it.
Core Doctrinal Beliefs
1. The Trinity: We believe in one God eternally existing in three equal persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who have the same nature and attributes but who are distinct in office and activity. (Deut. 6:4; Isa. 48:16; Jer. 10:10; Matt. 28:19; John 10:30; Acts 5:3-4; 2 Cor. 13:14; Heb. 1:8).
2. God the Father: We believe in God the Father who is the first person of the Trinity and is the divine source of creation and of human life. While God is distinct from His creation, He is actively involved in it (Gen. 1:1; 26-28; Gen. 2:7-25; John 3:16; Eph. 1:3-6).
3. God the Son: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, Truly God and Truly man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary (John 1:1, 14, 18; Lk. 1:26-35; Col. 1:15-20; Heb. 1:1-3).
4. God the Holy Spirit: We believe in the Holy Spirit the third person of the Trinity who eternally co-exists as one with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit is a divine person possessing all the attributes of deity. The Holy Spirit convicts people of their sin and He is the agent of regeneration in all the believing. The Spirit baptizes believers into the body of Christ, He indwells all believers, seals them for the day of redemption, empowers them to live victoriously and enables believers to bear fruit to the glory of God. (Matt. 18:20; 28:20; 8:26-27; 14:9; 28:18; Mark 2:8; John 2:25; 6:64; 16:30; 16: 8-11; 1 Cor. 12:13; Eph. 1:13-14 Gal. 5:16-26).
5. Man and Sin: We believe man was created in the image of God, that he sinned in Adam and thereby incurred both physical and spiritual death (separation from God). Man is now a sinner by nature and by choice and in need of salvation which is found exclusively in the gospel of Jesus Christ (Gen 1:1, 27; 2:17; 3:1-19; Isa. 53:6; Rom. 3:9-19, 23; Rom. 5:12-21; Eph. 2:1-3).
6. Salvation: We believe in salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ’s substitutionary payment for our sins. It is not based on human merit, works, or religious ceremony. We believe that anyone who has placed their faith in Christ and is born again by the Spirit is eternally secure, has everlasting life, will not come into condemnation, and shall never be subject to the eternal judgment of God. We believe that assurance of salvation comes to the believer from three primary sources: trusting the Word of God’s promises, the witness of the Holy Spirit, and a persevering walk with the Lord (John 1:12; 3:2-3, 16, 36; 5:24; 10:28-29; 11:25-26; 2 Cor. 5:17-21; Eph. 2:8-9; Titus 3:4-7; Matt. 25:31-46; Rom. 8:28-29; 1 John 4:11-13; Jude 1; Rev. 20:12-15).
7. The Church: We believe in the church, both universally and locally, as the spiritual body of which Christ is the head, and that in the gathering of the church through the means of grace namely the practices of water baptism m, the Lord’s Supper, and the teaching of the scripture, by these does God minister to his people. The visible church is distinguished from the invisible church. The invisible church are those truly born again believers known by God and elect in Christ (Matt. 16:18; Acts 1:5; 11:15-16; 1 Cor. 12:13; Eph. 1:22-23; 4:11-16; 5:22-23; Col. 1:18; Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 2:38, 41; 9:17-18; 18:8).
8. Eternity: We believe in the physical resurrection of the human body (at the second coming of Christ) and in the conscious existence of all individuals in either heaven or hell; and in the rewards of the saved and the punishment of the lost for eternity (Luke 16:19-31; 1 Cor. 3:11-15, 1 Cor. 15; 2 Cor. 5:11-15).
9. The Bible/Word of God: We believe that the original manuscripts of the Old and New Testament comprise the full, word-for-word, truthful, inerrant Word of God which is the supreme and final authority in doctrine and practice (Isa. 40:8; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Heb.4:12; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
