Our Beliefs

Our Distinctives

Our Mission & Vision

Our mission is to glorify God by equipping our people to lead others into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, fulfilling our vision of seeing all people grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Our Core Values

  1. Authority of Christ and Scripture
The Lord Jesus Christ is the sole head of the Church, and His Word is the supreme and final authority in all matters of life and ministry.
  2. Dependence on God Through Prayer
Prayer expresses our total dependence upon God and trust in His purposes.
  3. The Worship of God
God alone is worthy of worship. We are committed to worship that is reverent, God-centred, and ordered according to His Word.
  4. Clarity of Doctrine
Sound doctrine, clearly taught and confessed, is essential to a faithful, unified, and effective ministry.
  5. Evangelism and Mission
Christ has commanded his church to make disciples of all nations. We are committed to proclaiming the gospel faithfully, both locally and abroad.
  6. Godly Leadership
Biblically qualified spiritual leaders are essential to the health of the local church, equipping and building up the congregation for works of service.
  7. Spiritual Growth
Every believer is called to grow in grace, pursue holiness, and faithfully exercise their gifts within the life of the local church.
  8. Loving Relationships
Genuine, self-giving love among believers is a mark of Christ's church and essential to unity and effective ministry.
  9. Gift-Oriented Ministry
God equips every believer with spiritual gifts for the common good, that the whole body may be built up in Christ.

What We Believe

We hold to the Bible, as originally given, as the inspired, sufficient, and infallible Word of God. It is the supreme authority in all matters of belief and behaviour.

  1. Scripture
The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and life.
  2. The Triune God
There is one God, eternally existing in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  3. Creation
God created the world out of nothing by the power of his Word, and all things exist for his glory.
  4. Human Sinfulness
In Adam, all humanity fell into sin and is by nature guilty, corrupt, and unable to save itself.
  5. Jesus Christ
The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who took on true human nature, lived in perfect obedience, died as a substitutionary sacrifice, rose bodily, and reigns at the Father's right hand.
  6. Redemption
God redeems his people from the guilt, penalty, and power of sin through the atoning work of Jesus Christ, received through repentance and faith.
  7. Justification
God justifies the ungodly by grace alone, through faith alone, on account of Christ alone.
  8. The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit regenerates, indwells, and sanctifies all true believers, conforming them to the image of Christ.
  9. Christ's Return
The Lord Jesus Christ will return bodily and visibly to judge the living and the dead.
  10. Marriage
Marriage is a covenant instituted by God between one man and one woman, for life.

The Five Solas

The Five Solas are five Latin phrases from the Protestant Reformation that summarise the Reformers' basic theological principles.

Sola Scriptura

Scripture Alone

The inerrant Scripture is the sole written divine revelation that can bind the conscience.

Sola Fide

Faith Alone

Justification is by grace alone through faith alone because of Christ alone.

Sola Gratia

Grace Alone

In salvation we are rescued from God's wrath by his grace alone.

Solus Christus

Christ Alone

Our salvation is accomplished by the mediatorial work of the historical Christ alone.

Soli Deo Gloria

Glory to God Alone

Because salvation is of God and has been accomplished by God, it is for God's glory.

The Westminster Confession of Faith

We affirm the Westminster Confession of Faith as a faithful and helpful summary of biblical truth. We do not elevate any confession or creed to the authority of Scripture; rather, we see it as a helpful guide for the interpretation of Scripture.

You do not have to personally hold to the Westminster Confession to be a member of Woodlands Grace Church. It serves as a summary of the doctrinal distinctives held by our leadership and the Grace Presbyterian Church of New Zealand.
